While a slightly more involved trip to reach, Buttermere and Crummock Water are undoubtedly jewels in the Lakeland Crown. Buttermere provides options for sunrise images, astro work and you may have heard of the famous lone tree, and the pines which are popular subjects. Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks are very recognisable, and seem to find their way into most Buttermere images. Crummock is easily reached from the east as the road runs alongside, but often the better views - sunrise at least - are from the western shores, and in spring the area around Rannerdale knots is famous for its bluebells.
