Hello! My name is Phil Royal and I'm a photographer based in Cockermouth in the northern Lake District.
I've lived here for over 5 years, having moved up from Kent... but I'd been holidaying in the Lakes for eons before that!
I used to be an engineer (ship designer) and second-jobbed in commercial photography, but family circumstances gave me the
opportunity to relocate up to Cockermouth to pursue my first love - photographing nature and sharing that experience with others.
While covid and other logistics got in the way at first, I'm now up and running selling my pictures online.
I have a small gallery space at the Wheatsheaf pub in Low Lorton, so if you're in the area please check it out... feedback always welcome.
I also can offer photographic tuition and location guidance in the Lakes - I love to do this to share my experiences with others.
I'm getting older now so don't tend to do high fells. but have found good vantage points which need a lot less effort!
Saying that, it can still be challenging! My most inspirational conditions are mist and night time, so I am often out all hours in the cold.
Some say I'm crazy, and they could well be right.
I also undertake commercial drone photography work, so if you live locally and want aerial shots of anything just drop me a message.
I sincerely hope you enjoy looking at my work - if you choose to buy something I am most grateful, but even if you
prefer to just look and are inspired to try to experience similar moments then I've accomplished my aim.
